I work with mothers and their children, and every day I learn something amazing! Every time I am invited into their homes and learn about how they have coped with all the difficulties in their life, I think it’s extraordinary.

That people who have had to deal with almost unimaginable stresses are incredibly resilient. Never ceases to amaze me!

People can survive and cope with the most difficult situations – and come out the other side. Astonishing!

I always find the difference between what the body CAN do and what the body ALLOWS you to do fascinating. In one of my pictures you can see somebody sitting in a chair – we ask them to extend their leg as hard as they can (a maximal contraction) and then while they are doing so we electrocute them!! We send a small electric shock straight to the nerve and this causes the entire muscle to contract. If you are rested there is no difference because your maximum is really the maximum but if you are tired there is a big difference – the muscle can do so much more than you think!
