The reasons that people feel stressed are very different for different people, and at different times in their lives. For example, one person could feel stressed due to exams when they’re at school, or then feel stressed due to deadlines or finding a place to live when they’re older. Sometimes, it can just be that a person has a lot to cope with at a particular time in their lives. However, as people grow older they often develop ways of coping with their own stresses and knowing when they should go to others or ask for help.
We respond to stress in order to survive life’s pressures and challenges – it’s a survival mechanism.
The things and events that cause stress are called stressors. But as Kristi says, different people become stressed about different things. Some people are frightened by heights, some people are worried about exams or having enough food to eat for their family, others get stressed about deadlines or being in a competition.
For example you and your friends might have different stressors – it all depends on how we perceive them and think about them
